Closeup organism

I quite what this looks like closeup. It's a shame I have to go down the 2D route for this project, as being able to navigate around the player like this would be more interesting visually. I scripted a version of the game that allowed the player to float around this shape, sort of like the controls of "Descent". It worked well, but the enemy AI and lack of time to model them in 3D meant it wasn't possible to implement, without using a billboard effect to make them always face the camera.
